About the event

🌟 PMI Tasmania Education Event – Exploring Careers in Project Management 🌟

Have you ever wondered what project management actually is or how it differs from product management?

Choosing a career can be challenging, especially with so many pathways available. Whether you're studying Business, IT, Engineering, or another discipline, understanding how your skills can translate into different careers is an important step in planning your future.

PMI Tasmania is delighted to welcome Steve Armitage, a senior Program & Portfolio Leader, PMO Leader, and Consultant with more than 25 years of experience delivering complex change across Australia and the UK.

From leading an AU$32M+ ERP program to establishing PMOs and delivering transformation initiatives across industries, Steve brings a wealth of experience spanning IT, business transformation, government, healthcare, finance, and infrastructure.

In this session, Steve will share practical insights into what project professionals do, how project management skills transfer across industries, and how careers can evolve over time.

What you'll explore:

  • What project management is—and why organisations need project professionals

  • The difference between Project Management and Product Management

  • How project skills apply across industries and career pathways

  • The transferable skills employers value and how your studies can prepare you for the future

  • Steve's career journey, lessons learned, and insights from 25+ years in the profession

You'll also have the opportunity to ask questions, connect with project professionals, and discover how PMI Tasmania supports students and emerging professionals through networking, volunteering, and lifelong learning.
